@-->-->--- Phantom of the Opera : Music of the Night ---<--<--@
@-->-->--
Yeay! I watched Phantom Of The Opera on the 4th or 3rd of January 2005!!! My first movie of the year!!! And the most remarkable one too!
Frankly speaking, when I first saw the trailer that the musical is made into a movie, I was quite excited and I called agwenalist immediately to tell her about it and asked her whether she would like to watch the movie with me. Of course she said yes immediately as she is a musical avid like me! :D
At first there wasn't any planning on watching the movie, so I wasn't like very enthusiastic about it either. I kept forgetting that I needed to watch this movie! Either I was too busy with work or too busy playing games.
So in the end, agwenalist went to watch this movie with her friends and I read from her blog that it was a terrfic show! And agwenalist likes Raoul in the movie alot, as her blog stated, Raoul was very handsome, she even posted his pictures. Personally I don't think he is.
At first, I thought Patrick Wilson acted as Phantom but it wasn't him. So I didn't pay attention until agwenalist told me Patrick acted as Raoul.
Then agwenalist suggested to watch the movie with me and zen. And I agreed but I wasn't like in a frenzy fever or what. I was just happy to see the movie because the galore of nice nice songs in it!!! I forgotten most of the songs, how the tunes go and whatnot. But one thing is I know all of them are nice songs!!!
I went to watch the musical before when I was in secondary school with the drama club, and the deepest impression of the whole musical is the song, "Think of Me" the debut song Christine performed in the show. Hahaha... Another thing is I remembered I needed to use my binoculars to watch the show as we were seated too far behind already :( I remember the other club members kept bugging me to lend them the binoculars.
The story I almost completely forgotten.
And on that fateful night, the movie re-ignite my spark of memory!!!
Everything was so nice, the movie, the people and the costume!!! The way they direct the movie... I love the opening scene so much!
From old, dusty, black and white to colorful and vivid opera house!!! Then the Phantom of The Opera overture was playing behind, it was like that kind of ominious theme. :D Felt so cool!
And the part where Christine finally saw Phantom behind the mirror, that part was good too! How he enchanted Christine, when they sang the Phantom of The Opera duet and also the part where Phantom sang Music of The Night to Christine, these are all the nice parts I like :D
Of course when Phantom finally appear for the first time, I was enchanted by him! O0O -> This is my reaction.. and I kept telling agwenalist excitedly (like I nv saw a man for 100 years like that) ," WA SHUAI SHUAI SHUAI!!!" (meaning WA very handsome!)
Love the story very much.
Only regret is that Phantom and Christine cannot be together.
:( But that's how the original story goes, and no matter how much wallowing, complaining and weeping can change it.
I have very special feelings towards Phantom. He was so poor thing :( In one of the songs he sang, " This face... which earns a mother's fear and loathing.." Poor Phantom was being deserted by his own mother when he was so young because of his deformed face :(
All he wanted so much was someone to love and care about him. But no one does that. Sigh... And he loved Christine so much, he taught Christine how to sing, fathered her in a way disguised as *Angel of Music* and make her felt safe when Christine was young.
He believed that Christine's singing can make his music take flight. But since Christine had made her choice to love Raoul, he knew he was going to lost her forever. And his music of the night will be over, so he resorted to unreasonable ways to get Christine. He already don't know what to do to make Christine stay beside him, as he don't know much about love and the world. I know it's wrong to kill innocent people but Phantom had already lost that part of conscience in his heart, ever since he was being mistreated as a child. :( I felt so much empathy for poor Phantom.
Luckily, at the end, dear Christine moved him with a long deep kiss and embrace (HURRAY!), Phantom was stunned as he has never known human love. Christine's gesture - the sacrifice and commitment were too much for Phantom to bear. In the end, Phantom let Christine goes..
As the saying goes, "If you love someone, let her go."
Before Christine went off with Raoul, Phantom finally said the big three words, " I love you... " which he never did once confessed in his whole singing performance. He looked so helpless and devastated. Christine then took off the engagement ring that Raoul gave her, and gave it to him as a remembrance of her.
As she went off with Raoul on the boat, she sang... like she was singing the last time for poor Phantom.
And then Phantom just disappeared into nowhere...
I was thinking that if Phantom had used another way to court Christine, I don't think things will end up this way. :(
How much do Phantom love Christine? Can love be measured in terms of weight, depth or dimension?
All I know is Phantom love Christine very very very much.
I know it's just a ficitional character and I shouldn't be so serious about it but then I just can't help feeling this way. Even it's fictional, it's great, noble and such tragedy.
Throughout the movie, I kept asking agwenalist whether is there any romantic scenes between Christine and Phantom! Hahaha! I always can't wait for scenes where Phantom and Christine are alone! :P
As for my friends, I would like to apologise to them if I have irritated the hell out of them by always blabbering about Phantom, Phantom and more Phantom. Haha! Sorry ah! A big sorry goes to Valerie as she spent most of the time with me, hearing me telling her all about Phantom!
But Valerie did commented that the opening scene is very good and well done! She haven't watch the movie but i described to her about it and she felt it was quite creative to have an opening scene like that. She is definitely not just entertaining me!!! Hahaha!!!
Oh ya! She did also said that Phantom looked "dark" (Tall, dark and handsome, that dark! Not the skin fair or dark) :D
Some people ( Like my boyfriend! >:( who watched with me again on the 9th of January 2005) just dislike the idea of watching a movie where the characters uses singing even when they are just having conversation! But hello! That's what a musical movie is all about ok! My boyfriend was like, "Huh!? They will keep sing non stop throughout the whole movie ah!?"
I was like -_- then I said, "Ya that's what a musical movie is about, and somemore the music is so nice what!"
GRRRRR Guys!!! What do they know about it!?!?!? >:(
Worse, he made a comment on the songs yesterday when he said, "The songs are like Disney songs." -_- Wa lau! No ok! The songs are all so theatrical!!! How can he compare to Disney songs huh!?!?!?!?! >:(
I have so much sadness for Phantom that I don't think by merely typing out words on this blog can describe it.
Frankly speaking I felt more sadness for Phantom than the Tsunami Incident.
For this, I felt guilty. But I wanted to speak the truth and that's the truth!
I go to the temple to pray every monday since my work place is very near the temple. On "chu yi" (the 1st day of the month in chinese calender i think) which happened to fall on Monday, I went to the temple and prayed. WOW!!! There were so many people!!! I wanted to light the joss sticks but was always kanna squeezed out!!! After lighting my joss stick, I went to say my prayers then suddenly someone joss stick's ashes floated onto my face, wow the stinging pain! Ouch!
I bought The Phantom of the Opera Companion Book from Times bookstore. It features the early and different adaptions on the movie Phantom of the Opera, And then it covers on the cast and music of this adaption of the movie. Last but not least is the screen play script. Although it's expensive, I think it's rather worth buying. There aren't many pictures on Phantom and the only nice picture of him is the back cover of the book! Damn it! -_-
Yesterday I was telling Valerie that I felt like learning how to play the piano. And whether she knows any friends that know how to play the piano so I can get free lessons. :P Hahahhaa! My lady boss knows how to play the organ! :D Even more suitable for playing the Phantom of the Opera music! But I don't think she will teach me :(
Amazon.com also sell the music score of The Phantom of the Opera! Most of the songs are in it! I want to learn how to play "Think of Me" !!! Hahaha!
Then I continue to tell Valerie that I imagine this scenario that me and my friends are dining in The Centre Stage of Art Dining (not sure whether is this name), this restaurant is quite modern and high class, and in the middle, they have a live band, complete with a piano.
So I will be saying, "Sorry, can I borrow the the piano?"
And then... I will be playing "Think of Me" !!!! Hahahaha!!!
I can't get enough of Phantom of the Opera! Hahaha! Valerie was saying that it has been a week and I still haven't got over it! O_O
Hahahaha! :P
And I asked Valerie a difficult question yesterday. I asked her what will she do if her child is born with a deformed face (touchwood!) ? She said if she discover early, she will abort the child. Then i asked her, if already gave birth to it and can't abort it?
She replied me that she will feel very frustrated, the child will also feel frustrated. She said especially if the child loves her very much.
Hahaha :P
This coming saturday I am going to watch it again with another batch of friends! :D
The first time I watched with agwenalist and zen, I don't feel so much emotion for this whole movie or for Phantom. I was bearing neutral feelings for it. But at the ending part, it really captured me. And then now here I am, mind full of Phantom, speech full of Phantom...
For me, I have Pass the Point of No Return now...
ps: Oh yeay, Phantom always has this romantic gesture... he always gave a rose with a black ribbon tied to the stem to Christine..... ^^
